POWER Engineers Expert Presents Research in Costa Rica

August 2013

(Hailey, ID) — POWER Engineers (POWER) resident biologist and bat expert, Bill Doering will be sharing his research findings on “Winter Activity of Four Bat Species at Three Desert Hibernacula in Idaho” Aug. 11-15 at the 16th Annual International Bat Research conference (IBRC) in San José, Costa Rica. The conference is being held in conjunction with the 43rd Annual North American Symposium on Bat Research (NASBR).

Doering, a bat ecologist for over 20 years, has been with POWER since 2007 as a project coordinator, assisting clients as they navigate regulatory requirements related to renewable energy and power transmission and distribution projects. His background in studying bat migration and behavior SM2 Solar 002became important as wind turbines became a common source of renewable energy. “Some bats appear attracted to turbines, especially as they are migrating,” Doering explained. “Understanding migration paths and knowing which species are most affected by a certain geographic area is important data to report back to clients and regulatory agencies.”

POWER’s Resource and Asset Management (RAM) team of biologists, archaeologists, geologists, planners and engineers analyze project impacts, conduct surveys and monitoring, identify unique resources, and work with state and federal agencies to ensure projects comply with regulations and minimize impacts on the environment. Doering’s expertise has recently been enhanced with POWER’s acquisition of BHE Environmental in Ohio. BHE brings further bat and environmental expertise to POWER’s RAM Division. Like Doering, POWER employs highly skilled experts who have extensive experience serving diverse markets, including power transmission, renewable energy, mining, and pipelines. The combination of industry knowledge and scientific expertise gives clients a thorough understanding of project details, while minimizing the environmental impact in project areas.
