GE Power Systems awarded POWER the engineering subcontract for the design of the 357 MW Cannon Falls Energy Center, a new peaking plant developed in Cannon Falls, Minnesota, by Invenergy, a Chicago-based IPP. The plant is based around two GE 7FA gas turbine-generators equipped to fire natural gas as a primary fuel and uses GE’s dry low NOx combustion system. The 7FA is notable for high reliability and a flexibility¬†for a range of fuels. POWER’s scope included: complete civil/structural design for the power plant including geotechnical evaluation, survey, foundation design for all equipment and complete A-E design for the controls and switchgear enclosure; mechanical specification and design for all balance of plant equipment, piping systems for fuel, air and cooling systems and utilities; electrical design including engineering, specification and layout of electrical distribution, relaying, switchgear, breakers, transformers and balance of plant MCCs; and I&C engineering for plant operation logic and full detail design of all related controls.
