An electric utility client sought a fast-track solution to relay coordination problems that had caused electrical outages to some of its industrial customers. POWER performed an area review of protective relay coordination and developed recommendations for improving the utility’s protection scheme security and dependability. POWER collected data for 35 substations and related lines and provided power system modeling, protective relay coordination, and logic settings review. Because of the urgency for a solution and the high number of apparatus to analyze, POWER’s team developed an innovative method to track and expedite the flow of information so that field setting improvements could be implemented as quickly as feasible. The project was completed in 12 weeks.
