Chewing Gum Production Line Design and Facility Upgrades

POWER was hired by this leading manufacturer of confections to provide equipment selection, integration of manufacturing equipment and extend plant infrastructure systems to a new chewing gum production line and facility upgrade at their Midwestern facility.  The project supported both existing and new products. A continuous manufacturing line was a benefit to the client because it would help simplify production and require less manpower.

Preliminary engineering efforts provided the client with layout options, general design criteria, budget numbers and schedule conclusions. POWER provided project engineering, including project management and coordination while working with an internal project manager.

Process engineering included updating P&IDs, producing mechanical drawings, preparing bid packages as well as bid analysis and equipment selection. POWER specified a new HVAC system for the process and conditioning room, allowing large air handlers to continually circulate fresh air. POWER also specified a new dust collection system for the flavor ingredients and rolling/scoring dust.  Scope also included the electrical power systems, including an electrical system coordination study, short circuit study and arc flash study.

POWER delivered a controls design package, including specifications. POWER provided architectural/structural direction and defined the general requirements to the architectural subcontractor. Construction services included oversight of the contractors, support of the mechanical utilities and the process equipment installation. POWER helped the client achieve their project goals by working with the internal customers, equipment suppliers (both domestic and international) and the contractors.
