POWER is designing the balance of plant for a new 100 MW simple-cycle natural gas-fired power plant at Ubungo, Tanzania. POWER is the engineering subcontractor to the Norwegian construction firm Jacobsen Electro AS, which holds the Engineer, Procure, Construction (EPC) contract with the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO). The project is financed by the Tanzanian government. The plant is designed around three Siemens SGT-800 generating units and will be constructed on an existing generating site 16 kilometers west of Dar es Salaam. Each unit is capable of producing 40 MW of electricity and each will be installed with an 11 kV/132 kV transformer. POWER also is designing an accompanying 132 kV switchyard extension to interconnect with the Ubungo Substation through a 350-meter-long 132 kV underground XLPE cable. POWER is responsible for the civil, structural, process, mechanical, plant electrical, control and instrumentation, switchyard, and underground cable design. During construction, we will provide support to Jacobsen’s installation team.
