Co-Existence of Transmission Lines and Communication Systems
By Harvey Lehpamer, Ph.D., P.Eng., POWER Engineers
Large man-made structures could potentially impact operation of existing radio communications systems. IEEE, FAA, and FCC define strict requirements for the exclusion zones around airport navigational aids and AM broadcasters. It is important to identify potential challenges ahead of time and long before the permitting process starts, which is often at the end of the lengthy transmission line design and acquisition of ROW. This paper will provide an overview of IEEE, FAA, and FCC requirements and discuss some real-life case analyses.
