Energy Storage

Energy storage systems are essential for utilities to effectively manage the mix of energy sources coming onto the modern grid. But which system is right for you? POWER Engineers has been supporting energy storage systems since the mid-1990s and can help you select and design the best system for your unique needs.

Whether you’re interested in batteries (lithium-ion, sodium–sulfur, or flow), pumped hydro, thermal energy or compressed air, POWER Engineers can help.

Across-the-board expertise

As an industry leader in power generation and delivery, POWER brings strength, depth and expertise to the multi-faceted technical needs associated with energy storage projects.

Our first utility-scale energy storage project was Golden Valley Electric Association’s 40 MW BESS near Fairbanks, Alaska. In operation since 2003, the BESS has improved reliability to GVEA’s members during hundreds of generation and transmission related outages.

POWER also has extensive experience with renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, geothermal and biomass. This includes integrating renewable sources into microgrids, utility power grids and within regional transmission organizations across the country.

You gain reliability and ROI

POWER Engineers will help you take advantage of advances in storage technology that provide greater grid reliability and that pay for themselves with a positive return on investment now.

In addition, we have the infrastructure to support the non-technical needs of any storage project or program, such as use case analysis and program management. This ranges all the way from tendering to project execution, resulting in cost-effective and reliable projects.

From master planning to comprehensive startup and commissioning, we offer start-to-finish engineering services for your projects.
